In memoriam
Maija
– Liisa Penttinen
In
1998 the Vaasa Marssi in Finland became a member of the International
Marching League Walking Association.
Maija – Liisa was there from
the beginning as chair – woman of the walking organization in
Vaasa, as promoter, as ambassador and even on the control post during
the march. It was
always possible to have a good laugh with her, she was friendly,
helpful and always a good comrade. She always had proposals and new
ideas, not only for her own walk but also for the IML and she had the
courage to communicate some criticism, no matter whom this criticism
concerned.
Maija
– Liisa was also widely respected as a walker and during the IML
marches she and her Finnish colleagues in their white and blue
walking clothes became a familiar walking group. She succeeded to put
Vaasa on the walking map of the World.
With
great sadness we received the message from Finland that Maija –
Liisa lost the battle caused by her health condition and passed
away on Friday August 14 2009.
We
wish her family and friends all the possible strength to deal with
the fact she is no longer there.
